Sarah was born in Whitchurch in 1817 and married Henry Howard in 1836. They emigrated firstly to South Africa but later set up business in Halifax, Nova Scotia. They had five children. Sarah established her own millinery business. Henry died in 1859. Her son Ebenezer was responsible for the erection of her tombstone. He purchased “The Adoration of the Lamb” which hangs in Whitchurch Methodist Chapel.
